Zimbabwe: Former teacher to groom upcoming artistes
By Tafadzwa Muranganwa – A former teacher who is also a gospel musician has set up an arts hub that will see upcoming artistes being groomed to be professional artistes.
Speaking at a press conference in Harare, Collen Timeo who is founder of Timz Creative Arts Group said he came up with the idea after realising from his own experiences that there are many budding artistes who fail to attain their dreams because of lack of exposure so the hub will be a launch pad for most aspiring artistes.
“My journey as a musician coming from a rural background was not so rosy as most of the time the band I belonged to failed to be intact as band members sought other opportunities so it is against this background that I have established Timz to facilitate grooming and exposure to less privileged artistes,” said Timeo who is now a Sales and Marketing Executive at Dariro Mode.
The artiste was born in Mazowe and raised in Mutoko.
The soft-spoken musician says Timz Creative Arts Group will embrace various arts genres that include music and poetry.
In its bid to professionalise, the arts hub has already put up a management team that comprises of Mr Eschel Matyoramhinga as the band manager, Mr Josiah Dimbo , Chief Publicity and one P Masango who doubles as the Chief Security and Finance Officer.
The UZ Bachelor of Business Studies holder is also revelling in a double album launch that will be held on Saturday.
The albums are Namatai Musiki which was done in 2015 but was not officially launched and this year’s Huni DzeGehena.
Timeo who was flanked by his wife Happiness Nyanzara, band manager and chief publicist said all is in place for the double album launch to be held at EastPoint formerly Jazz 105.
“Preparations are at an advanced stage and in the latest offering I am preaching about paradise gospel to counter the proliferation of prosperity gospel which I think is overshadowing the former but is more important for people to get into heaven, ”explained Collen.
Huni DzeGehena carries 7 tracks namely Gadziriro YeMweya ,Jehovha Mufudzi Wangu,Musafunganya,Huni DzeGehena,Urikubatei,Sei Gungwa and Nzvimbo Yakanaka.
