Ghana: IPMC – Microsoft Open Door User Conference ends in Accra
By Peterking Quaye, Accra, Ghana for Shout-Africa.com – Microsoft dominance has been reinforce with a the second Open Dorr Microsoft User Conference .The IPMC-Microsoft IT conference got on the way in the Ghanaian capital during the week ,with one of the leading IT institutions in Ghana-IPMC .
The Conference took place at the Accra International Conference Centre, from April7-8 and brought together over 1,000 participants from the civil society, I T professionals, students and other stakeholders.
The conference aims at exposing users and professionals to new developments in the industry and how these could be applied in their jobs.
Speaking at the conference Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communications, on Thursday said work on the construction of an Information Technology park in Tema would commence in July this year, to provide opportunity for IT professionals to provide services to the public.
He said Parliament would soon discuss the Number Portability Access Bill, which would offer a centralised services portal to government and also help in accessing government services such as company registration licence, application for birth certificates and other documents.
Mr Iddrisu commended IPMC for providing leadership in information technology in the competitive and a fast changing world.
General Manager, Microsoft Anglophone West Africa ,Mr Emmanuel Onyeje, ,in an interview with Shout-Africa.com said IT transformation in Africa is basically looking at three basic elements the Cloud, Low cost computing and Consumerisation. Delivering IT as a service should allowed users to focus on their businesses since they could work in their offices or in the comfort of their homes.
Mr Amar Deep Hari, Chief Executive Officer, IPMC-Ghana, when mounted the podium started by giving statics of I T success chocked by the country and revealed that there were over 2.5 million internet users in Ghana and about 800,000 on the social network – face book.
He said the Microsoft Open Door Conference was the second edition and the theme chosen was focused towards opening the doors for more ideas, contacts and adding more knowledge to other brains.
The conference had three sessions with teaching and speaker, making presentations on various Microsoft’s latest software, IT Professional and Developer. Some participants that were interview expressed their satisfaction about the conference and urged the organizers to continue it, as it was very educative and will help to position Ghana on the I T map of the world.
