Willdale Limited gets the nod to invest in Zambia
By Alfred Tembo – Zimbabwe Stock Exchange listed brick maker Willdale Limited plans to contest in Zambia booming construction industry and as a commodity and service provider.
The company which rolled its sleeves in readiness for the marketing which has for long imported bulk of building construction from China and South Africa, late last year invested over $2 million in setting up a transport logistics unit, by acquiring a fleet of 12 specialised trucks.
The company says it has since resolved to establish branch in the Zambia, as part of its expansion program, but details will be made available upon concluding they required preliminaries.
Sales and marketing office, Dickson Musa said, “The opening in the Zambian market is clearly seen from the number of buildings constructed using cement bricks, which to some extent it very costly, in that upon completion one needs to plaster and paint.
“But as for face bricks you do not paint, more over we provide high quality product that conform to the Standard Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) assuring our clients durable products, which complies with Zambian effort to promote a green economy” he said.
Zambian construction industry has for long thriving on contractors from abroad, benefiting the respective countries than the host countries and the region.
Musa said his company has the capacity to supply Zambia or any other country citing that Willdale Limited has over the years built capacity.
“Now we are looking at putting up an office in Zambia so that we tap into the Zambian market, but in future we may set up a plant,”
We brick we produce are made from clay and the whole process that these products are made in environmental friendly in that we do not use chemicals or any other foreign agents to enhance the quality and strength of our products.
The company was in the country, making its debut appearance at Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show this year, under the banner of ZimTrade, a Zimbabwean organisation that has over the years played an instrumental role of promoting linkages between Zimbabwean and Zambia.
Willdale Limited’s plant capacity is set at over 160 million bricks per annum.
In 2014, the company raised $3,25 million through a rights issue which was aimed at increasing production capacity through acquiring mobile equipment as well as installation of all-weather facilities.
