Zimbabwe: Telone employees challenged on their health status

By Alfred Tembo – Zimbabwe’s leading telecommunication services director has challenged Telone employees to cautiously guard their health in a bid to prioritise the company’s growth and development.

The managing director’s statement comes at a time when Zimbabwe is struggling to mitigate the scornful pandemic that has rampantly reduced the skilled manpower in Zimbabwean industries.  In the chain of spreading of the pandemic, women and children are the most affected as they are the most vulnerable and are largely dependents.

Speaking at the official launch of Telone Sports Gala which was held on Saturday at Chaplin High school in Gweru Mr. Hampton Mhlanga said it is in the company’s interest to afford its employees the environment that helps to cultivate the spirit of joy and togetherness.
“As we interact and mingle we should be mindful to priorities our health, hence we should not indulge in activities that put our health at risk and this will help us maintain happiness in our respective families.” said Mhlanga.

Two day sporting activities, witnessed the convergence of various teams from all corners of Zimbabwe to battle it out in soccer, netball, darts and pool. The wining team will walk away with floating and prize money, for soccer, they are all battling it for first, second and third positions which all a floating trophy and various prize moneys ranging from at least US $500 to US $100 according to the four sporting disciplines namely net ball, pool and darts respectively.

The marketing executive for Telone said “We are happy that all the sporting activities we are having, have got representatives from all over Zimbabwe. I am glad that there is a spirit of competitiveness in the camps.”

However the company, which is seeking to unify its employees through sport, also wants to plough back into the communities they operate from by involving members of the community in future activities and also contribute sporting equipment through the same initiative.
“We are hoping that some of the sporting equipment we are using can be donated to schools and institutes as a token of appreciation to the contribution that they are making to our organisation” Kena said.

The company whose mission is to become the most efficient service provider in telecommunication services in Zimbabwe, has for the past few years failing to cope with economical depression that lately swept nation’s pride away. Currently Telone is facing challenges to fully rise to its feet, due to high rates of vandalism and theft of its copper cables.

“We are endeavouring to replace our stolen properties, which are scattered across the country. “Despite the challenges we are facing as a company, it is our responsibility to motivate our employees and maintain their mental fitness especially through such sporting activities” Mhlanga further commented.
