Despite the heavy rain, Sierra Leonean soul queen Azania braved the wet and cold weather last Tuesday just to keep a scheduled interview appointment at Lido Restaurant in the heart of Harlem in New York City. Many other artists would have simply cancelled the interview due to bad weather. But not Azania who fully understands the true value and power of publicity for artists, musicians and entertainers. During our conversation, She updated her career status relative to the past two years that she has lived and worked in Geneva, Switzerland. And her plans for 2017 among other things.

To improve the quality of the Miss Zimbabwe Contest, new licensees to host the preliminaries to the contest will be appointed worldwide. Over the last few years, the Miss Zimbabwe Trust has been looking for ways to improve the quality of the contest. One of the ways it has sought to do this is to improve the quality of the contestants and the regional contests that feed into the main contest. As part of this focus on improvement, the way preliminary shows in Zimbabwe and abroad are managed will be improved. These contests are to be more focused on promoting the contestants and Zimbabwe. In a press briefing, the founder of the Miss Zimbabwe Trust, Crispen Sachikonye, who has been in strategic discussions with various stakeholders, said that new licensees will be appointed for various regions. He said that the identification of licensees was now at an advanced stage with for example, Zimbabwe Fashion Showcase being selected as a licensee for Miss Zimbabwe UK.

Nearly four million Liberians are ruthlessly affected by these challenges each day with staggering impact on the economy and environment. The lack of safe water, adequate sanitation and proper hygiene is causing a crisis in our country. But, Liberia’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) crisis is not due to scarcity. It is due exclusively to the lack of access, effective public policy, political will and determination. In a recent report, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that many Liberians die each year from preventable diseases attributed to unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and improper hygiene.
