A three day workshop on the establishment of a Pan-African Agenda for Sustainable Artisanal Fisheries has begun in Bangul, Gambia. This is coming ahead of this year's World Fisheries Day celebration.
The workshop put together by the African Confederation of Artisanal Fisheries Professional Organization (CAOPA) in conjunction with the Food and Agriculture Organization, the National Association of Artisanal Fisheries Operators of Gambia, the Coalition pour des Accords de Peche Equitable, the Sub-regional Fishermen Commission and the Gambian Government.
Mercy Girls' High School situated in Umuezeala Oweri in Ehime Mbano Southeast, Nigeria was founded in 1966 by the Late Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, the late Bishop Anthony Nwedo. At inception, the school was a Preliminary Training College Ehime, (PTC) and was later converted to a secondary school in 1966 with the name Mercy Secondary School, Ehime by the then Bishop of Umuahia, the late Bishop Anthony Nwedo of blessed Memory.
According to reports, the school was taken over by the then South-eastern Government of Nigeria for about forty years (40) and was given back to its rightful owner, the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe in May, 2010 and was subsequently renamed Mercy Girls' High School, Umuezeala Owerre as against Girls' High School Umuezeala Owerre, the name for which it was known while it was under the management of the state government.
The second edition of the African Women in the Media, AIM 2018 has come and gone. It was a gathering of women in the media space from across the African continent fully represented at the event.
In an opening remark, the founder and convener of the African Women in the Media Conference, Dr. Yemisi Akinbobola said the vision for the group was to inspire and support African Women in the Media space whether it is in advertising, research,
journalism among other areas.
Dr. Akinbobola observed that there was a need for a better representation of African Women. She decried that women are still having issues in leadership positions in the media.

This weeklong, first in history event - coincides with the 15th International Day of Zero Tolerance on Tuesday, February 6, a UN sponsored day of awareness for the eradication of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Female Genital Cutting (FGC) that proponents say is discrimination and absolute violation of the human rights of women and girls - will bring together the masses of affected women who will speak boldly about the World Health Organization’s FGM/FGC categorizations, exaggerated claims of harm as well as one-sided media representations of FGM in Sierra Leone and globally.
A National Symposium on Resolving the Risk in the Agricultural Value Chain is underway in Abuja, the Nigerian Federal Capital. The national symposium is on focusing attention to fix the bottlenecks in the nation’s agricultural value chain.
