LIBERIA: WaterAid launches Global Sanitation findings

As part of World Toilet Day 2016 (November 19) Celebration in Liberia, the British Charity WaterAid has released a staggering report on the status of sanitation globally. The finding by the British charity is contained in a report named and styled Overflowing cities...The State of the World’s Toilets 2016. The report has revealed that India, the third-biggest economy on Earth-is the worst country in the world for numbers of urban dwellers without safe, private toilets and for open defecation, followed by China and Nigeria

To mark World Toilet Day on November 19, WaterAid Liberia is calling on its government to keep its promise to deliver universal access to toilets,after new analysis ranks the countryfourth in the world for having the greatest percentage of urban dwellers practising open defecation. WaterAid’s Overflowing Cities: The State of the World Toilets report looks at the problem of urban sanitation and the health threats to our world, as the UN predicts by 2050 two-thirds of the global population will live in towns and cities.

The government and people of Sierra Leone will observe 3 minutes of Silence Monday, November 7 to commemorate the anniversary of the declaration of the end of Ebola virus disease in the country by the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO said a total of 28,616 confirmed, probable and suspected cases were reported in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone resulting in 11,310, deaths.

Sandoz invites young entrepreneurs to enter Sandoz HACk, a global competition to help solve healthcare access challenges

Sandoz, the Novartis generic and biosimilar pharmaceutical division, announced the launch of Sandoz HACk – Healthcare Access Challenge – a global competition to generate innovative ideas and solutions to help tackle some of the world’s most pressing healthcare access problems. The competition is open for entries until November 30, 2016. “We are seeing Healthcare costs increasing at a rate faster than inflation in South Africa, says Carel Meintjes, Commercial Excellence Head at Sandoz. “I am convinced that there are brilliant young minds with wonderful, innovative ideas on how to improve healthcare. We believe that Sandoz HACk will create the platform to voice these creative ideas which will ultimately help to improve access to healthcare in South Africa.”

The awards ceremony recognises and celebrates international Zimbabwean women of excellence. It’s coming up to that time of the year when Zimbabwean women across the globe will be honoured at the prestigious Zimbabwe International Women’s Awards (ZIWA) ceremony to be held on Saturday, 29th October 2016 in Leicester, UK. ZIWA2014 and 2015 were sold out events with nominees flying in from Zimbabwe and the US. Through sponsorship by GBIHub, a private awards ceremony was held in Harare in order to honour those winners based in Zimbabwe.
