22 Gambians arrested in attempt to migrate to Europe

By Shout-Africa Gambian Correspondent – Despite the recurring loss of lives in the dangerous seas between Africa and Europe, many are still willing to brave the precarious conditions to enter Europe, as demonstrated by 22 more Gambian youths, who were last week arrested in a suspected attempt to travel over land through the Sahara Desert to Europe. The group, which consisted of mainly youths, was reportedly intercepted by officers of the Gambia Immigration Department at the Kerr Ali checkpoint in the North Bank Region. LIBERIA: LDS Donates Tools, Seeds To Ivorian Refugees & Hosts In Nimba

Myers – The Lutheran Development Service in Liberia (LDS) with support from its partners, has completed the distribution of agricultural materials and vegetable seeds to hundreds of Ivorian refugees and host communities in Gbele-Geh District, Nimba County. The tools and seeds valued over 18 thousand United States dollars were distributed to 48 Groups in 16 communities in Gbele-Geh District. Somalia: MSF is rapidly scaling up its activities in Mogadishu

Last week, Médecins Sans Frontières sent medical teams and four charter planes carrying 55 tons of medical equipment, medicines and therapeutic food to Mogadishu in response to the crisis in Somalia. An estimated 100,000 people have fled from south and central Somalia to the capital to seek assistance in recent weeks. They are settling in numerous camps in and around Mogadishu, with little or no access to health care. MSF calls on the Government of Kenya and UNHCR to relocate refugees to the better Ifo 2 camp, as agreed 12 days ago.

26 July 2011 – The international medical aid agency Medécins Sans Frontières MSF (Doctors Without Borders) is deeply concerned by the relocation of Somali refugees in Dadaab to Ifo 3 extension camp. The relocation, which began yesterday under the auspices of the UNHCR, has been carried out with little transparency or consultation with other agencies on the ground and the refugee community. Some 200 families per day are being relocated to Ifo 3, a camp with little existing basic services, including water and sanitation.
