The briefing was held at the Tango conference hall in Kanifing and covered issues relating to the forthcoming World Social Forum to be co-hosted by the social forums of the Gambia and Senegal from 6 to 13 February 2011 in Dakar, Senegal. Prosecutor Files New Applications for Referral of Cases to Rwanda

Source ICTR – The Prosecutor of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for    Rwanda,  Justice  Hassan  B.  Jallow, on 4 November 2010 filed three new   applications  for  the referral of the cases of three accused persons to  Rwanda  for  trial  under  Rule  11  bis.  The  cases  are  of detainee, Jean-Bosco Uwinkindi, a former Pastor in Charge of Pentecostal Church in Kanzanze  commune and the fugitives Fulgence Kayishema, former Inspector Police  in  Kivumo  commune and Charles Sikubwabo, former Bourgmestre of Gishyita,  Kibuye  Prefecture. By Own Correspondent – The treason trial involving Lt General Lang Tombong Tamba, ex-chief of defence staff and Rear Admiral Sajor Fofana, ex-chief of naval staff, yesterday failed to proceed at the special criminal court in Banjul owing to the absence of the prosecution witness. Gambia: State ordered to file amended indictment in judicial officials’ alleged scam

By Own Correspondent – Justice Lamin Jobarteh at the High Court in Banjul on Wednesday ordered state prosecutors to file within twenty-four hours the amended indictment in the criminal trial involving five former judicial officials. The accused persons, Justice Amina Saho Ceesay, Justice Ngui Mboob Janneh and Justice Safiatou Njie (who is said to be out of the jurisdiction), and two other judicial staff, Huruna Jaiteh, ex-Judicial Secretary, and Alhagie L.S. By Own Correspondent – The criminal trial involving Dr Isatou Touray, Executive Director of the Gambia Committee on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children (GAMCOTRAP) and Amie Sosoho-Bojang, Programme Coordinator at the same organization, yesterday commenced at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court. The two prominent women’s rights activists are being tried before Principal Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea for allegedly stealing 30,000 Euros, being money provided by the YALOCAMBA SOLIDARIDAD of Spain to GAMCOTRAP.
