Civil Society Organizations in Liberia doing advocacy for safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, have successfully commemorated Water Action Month (March 2017).
The Liberia WASH CSOs commemorated the Month with series of activities, with support from WaterAid Liberia-Sierra Leone, ranging from sit in actions, radio and TV talk shows, among others.
The commemoration of the day started with a radio Talk show at Fabric FM with George Karyah of the Liberia NGOs Network and Timothy Kpeh of United Youth for Education Development and Transparency appearing as guests on the show.
Liberia has joined the rest of the world in observance of World Water Day 2017, which is annually celebrated March 22.
The global theme of this year’s celebration is “waste water“ with the campaign theme: "Why waste water?"
The official celebration started with a parade from the Monrovia City Hall to the William V.S. Tubman High School in Sinkor for the indoor program which brought together WASH actors from government, development partners and civil society.
Higher Ground International (HGI), a Providence-based nonprofit NGO working in the rural communities of Liberia, West Africa celebrates the one-year anniversary of its new stateside headquarters and resource center, the Rukiya Center on the South Side of Providence, Rhode Island. The Rukiya Center is the only full service resource center of its kind that is dedicated to providing more robust culturally relevant programming and services for members of the Liberian and African diaspora living in Providence. The organization work has become well known in Rhode Island, gaining critical support from the community, elected officials and partnerships from large non-profit organizations, such as Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island, Lifespan, United Way of RI to name a few.
WaterAid Transboundary Programme of Liberia and Sierra Leone has launched a five-Year Strategic Plan.
The Transboundary Strategy runs from 2016/17 – 2021.
The Strategy will guide WaterAid Liberia and Sierra Leone Transboundary Programme for three years to come (2016/17-2018/19), after which WaterAid shall be operating two distinct Country Programmes in the last 2 years (2019/20 – 2020/21).
Five years budget for WaterAid Liberia is estimated at E7,126,351 , while Sierra Leone is estimated at E7,418,425 in (GBP).
The 5-Year Strategic Plan which is been described by the British Charity as a road map, will address critical WASH issues in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Border communities in the Mano River Union (MRU) Basin will shortly benefit from the provision of safe drinking water, improved sanitation and hygiene services.
The Initiative is part of the Mano River Union WASH Programs in the river basin to assist rural communities have access to safe water provision in the area.
