LIBERIA: Oxfam Delegation Visits Monrovia

Oxfam Pan African Program Delegation headed by the Director of programme, Janah Ncube has ended a 3-day visit to Liberia's Capital, Monrovia. The delegation from February 8-10, held round table discussion and Session with University of Liberia students and others on issues AU 2063 vision for Africa, with emphasis on the rights of African Women and Girls.

Far and above the undeniable and immeasurable contribution that African women can make towards the future growth and development of Africa, women’s rights are human rights and must not be denied. There must be both equal treatment and equal value of women and men, girls and boys.

Electrification is one of the primary drivers of economic and social growth: It's no accident that all the developed nations in the world have reliable energy infrastructures. By turning our attention to the continent of Africa, we can see the other side of that same coin - according to information from the International Energy Agency, more than 600 million people on the continent lacked electrical service in 2015. This is more than half of the total population. To help bring about the changes necessary to light up African homes and businesses, President Obama signed the “Electrify Africa Act” into law on February 9th, 2016.

Inside the tiny make-shift, are worn out blankets that are spread over a small mattress used for a bed, while a canvas tent spread across the room covers the dusty floor.

The Evangelical Congregational Church of Liberia (ECCOL) now has a New Bishop. He is Bishop G. Abraham Powell. He takes over from Bishop Matthew T. Gueh, who served the E.C. Church of Liberia for 17 years. The newly elected Bishop of the Evangelical Congregational Church of Liberia (ECCOL), Rev. G. Abraham Powell has promised robust reforms as a means of enhancing the spiritual and physical growth of the Church in Liberia.
