The UN Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, has commended the conduct of last Saturday's presidential poll describing it as "a testament” to Nigeria’s “democratic spirit”.
The U.S. President, Barack Obama, on has commended Nigeria's President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, and cthe incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan, following the outcome of the presidential and National Assembly polls. The U.S. President in a statement praised Nigeria’s commitment to democracy. He said “I urge President-elect Buhari and President Jonathan to repeat their calls to their supporters to continue to respect the election outcomes, focus on unifying the country, and together lead Nigeria through a peaceful transition.”
Eighteen thousand police officers (18,000) have been deployed to SOKOTO, Yobe, Kebbi and Zamfars states for the general election. The personnel comprised police, Department of State Services, civil defence, Nigeria Customs Service, immigration and prisons officers.
