Sierra Leone is at risk of having Victor Foh, the controversial Vice President as its next President over the ensuing two years. Victor Foh’s unlawful appointment to the position of Vice President has led to widespread condemnation of the government for what many consider blatant violations of the country’s constitution.
The UN Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, has commended the conduct of last Saturday's presidential poll describing it as "a testament” to Nigeria’s “democratic spirit”.
The U.S. President, Barack Obama, on has commended Nigeria's President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, and cthe incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan, following the outcome of the presidential and National Assembly polls. The U.S. President in a statement praised Nigeria’s commitment to democracy. He said “I urge President-elect Buhari and President Jonathan to repeat their calls to their supporters to continue to respect the election outcomes, focus on unifying the country, and together lead Nigeria through a peaceful transition.”
Eighteen thousand police officers (18,000) have been deployed to SOKOTO, Yobe, Kebbi and Zamfars states for the general election. The personnel comprised police, Department of State Services, civil defence, Nigeria Customs Service, immigration and prisons officers.
Peace Committee for the 2015 General Elections, led by retired Gen. Abdusalami Abdusalami, and is aimed at Jonathan and Buhari ,extracting commitment from the leading candidates that the forthcoming elections will be violence-free.
