NEC updates the donor community on election preparations

(Monrovia, October 8, 2011) The National Elections Commission (NEC) has updated the international Donor Community on preparation put in vogue for the conduct of the Presidential and Legislative Elections due for October 11, 2011. Speaking during a day-long donors’ coordination meeting held at NEC Headquarters on October 7, 2011, Chairman James M. Fromayan said elections materials have been deployed nationwide with the exception of Montserrado County. Uganda’s former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya charged with fraud

By Nangayi Guyson – Kampala – Uganda’s former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya has been charged with Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) fraud. Prof. Bukenya is charged with abuse of office and taking advantage from a 3.9 million USD deal to provide cars to the 2007 Commonwealth summit in Uganda’s capital city; Kampala. The luxury cars were used to transport dozens of heads of state during the 2007 CHOGM where the former vice-president was the chair of the cabinet team in charge of the event’s preparations. Announcing the results yesterday in Igunga, Tabora in the Western party of the country, the returning officer, Mr. Protace Magayane, said Dr. Dalay Peter Kafumu of CCM got 26,484 votes while Chadema’s Peter Kashindye followed closely with 23,260.
