Young Pearl Doherty was last night (10 September 2011) crowned queen at the inaugural Miss Zim Diamond show held at London’s Royal National Hotel. The Zimbabwe-born, Ireland-raised beauty won over the judges of the glittering show watched by an audience of 300, landing herself a grand prize of access to a career with a £30 000 a year salary in the hospitality industry, while other prizes took her total haul to an estimated £45 000. ZWEDRU, 6 September 2011 (IRIN) – With fear still rife among the Ivoirian refugees remaining in eastern Liberia, NGO the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), which is managing refugee camps in Grand Gedeh County, is working to ensure refugee camps are apolitical and weapon-free. “This cannot become a political environment… it is the only way to make sure people are safe,” said Steve Anyia, NRC’s manager of Solo refugee camp, 25km from Zwedru, in Grand Gedeh County, eastern Liberia.
