JOHANNESBURG, 11 February 2011 (PlusNews) – African countries struggling to contain HIV epidemics can learn a thing or two about HIV prevention from Zimbabwe, say the authors of a new study which found that a reduction in sexual partners drove a decrease in new HIV infections there. By Shout-Africa Correspondent – The Buduburam Refugee Camp has been home to refugees who fled the civil war in Liberia over two decades ago.One person has been confirmed dead in violent disturbances that broke out Sunday morning at the Buduburam camp for refugees. Kenya sees rise in its elephant population

By Nangayi Guyson – TSAVO NATIONAL PARK, Kenya (AFP) – Kenya’s wildlife has recorded some increase in elephant population in its flagship park wildlife authorities announced Saturday. Despite increased poaching and a recent severe drought, Kenya has recorded Elephant population increase  in the expansive Tsavo ecosystem in the south of the country rising  to 12,572 from 11,696 three years ago according to the preliminary results of a census released Saturday. Tanzania swallows pride, pleads for more aid from donors

By Kizito Makoye, Dar  es Salaam – Tanzania government has  sent an ‘emotional’ appeal to donors requesting for additional funding  to bridge the yawning gap in its 2010/11 national  budget. The move comes just weeks after the finance ministry’s permanent secretary Ramadhani Khijjah criticized donors for imposing stringent conditions on aid making it increasingly difficult to implement development programmes.
