BRAZZAVILLE, 10 December 2010 (IRIN) – The number of people killed by an outbreak of wild polio virus in the Republic of Congo has reached 200, officials said, as the second of three rounds of mass vaccination began. “The first phase was a great success with a coverage rate of 105 percent. Several low-income countries highly affected by HIV risk being entirely or partly disqualified from the current funding round by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, warns the international medical humanitarian organisation Médecins sans Frontières (MSF). Unless a new round of funding is urgently introduced to allow rejected applications to be resubmitted, HIV-positive people will suffer severe consequences such as debilitating opportunistic infections and ultimately early death. By Novell Zwange – Doha, QATAR – The luxurious airliner, Qatar Airways today announced an expansion of its East African network with 12 additional flights across two capital cities – Nairobi and Dar Es Salaam. The daily Doha – Nairobi flights have increased to 12-flights-a-week. From January 3, an additional two flights will take capacity up to double daily.
