Eight die in Burundi clashes

By Nangayi Guyson – BUJUMBURA(AFP) – At least eight  people were killed in two days of clashes between soldiers and “armed bandits” in north west Burundi, the army spokesperson Colonel Gaspard Baratuza said on Tuesday. The clashes in the northwest on Sunday night and Monday started after the bandits killed a gold trader in Murwi district, army spokesman Colonel Gaspard Baratuza said. “Soldiers who were based in the area intervened but the bandits staged an ambush and one of our men was killed,” Baratuza told AFP. MAU NAROK, 26 October 2010 (IRIN) – A water well, serving two different ethnic groups in Kenya’s Rift Valley province, has done more to bring them together than government and civil society efforts, say locals. “This well is an interaction point for the two communities, we always have a chance to meet as we fetch water for our households,” Ishmael Langat, a resident of Kirima village in Mau Narok, told IRIN. Uganda: Presidential nominations today

Uganda’s Electoral Commission has cleared six presidential candidates for nomination which starts today at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole and end tomorrow for presidential aspirants. According to the EC spokesperson, Willy Ochola, the six had fulfilled the required conditions after submitting 100 signatures of supporters from at least 75 of the 112 districts. Former rebel executed in Burundi

By Nangayi Guyson – Burundi’s former rebel movement member was executed overnight by a group of men wearing police uniforms north of the capital Bujumbura, officials said. “Eight armed men, including six in police uniforms, entered the home of a National Liberation Forces demobilised member called Anicet Ndayshimiye and took him away,” local official Jean-Pierre Ndayiragije said. “They then tied him up and riddled his body with bullets, from his head down to his feet, before making off in a jeep that was waiting for them,” he said.
