Ghana: 23 NOMINATIONS: SPARROW PRODUCTION LEADS AT GHANA MOVIES AWARDS 2010
By Peterking Quaye – If the future the Ghanaian movie industry is bright then awards of such calibre should be supported to empower stakeholders of the movie industry to produce films that can represent Ghana on the international creative good export sector .One Person and her company keep doing what is seems as one of the best in the industry in Ghana and Africa.
Shirley Frimpong-Manso and her Sparrow Production company is leading the nomination list with a total of 23 nominations from her two master pieces –Checkmate and Sting in a Tale , for the upcoming Ghana Movie Awards .Sparrow Production has presented to the Ghanaian public movies such as “Life and Living It” and then she came out with “Scorned”. After Scorned was the “Perfect Picture” and “A Sting In A Tale” featuring Lydia Fortson, Majid Michel, Adjure Anang, Doris Sackitey, Abeiku Acquah, Joselyn C. Dumas and others and currently out with ‘6 hours to Christmas .
Personally, “Life and Living It” did set out a standard. “Scorned” was below the standard of “Life and Living It”. The “Perfect Picture” was massively above Scorned and a little above “Life and Living It”.
The nomination includes the following for her two movie entered in the awards for this year :

The event might not have started on time as scheduled but attendance was impressive. At an impressive and well attended nomination party at the plush Golden Tulip on the 26th November, the gathered stars, producers, marketers and musicians
Shirley Frimpong-Manso film, ‘Checkmate & A Sting in a Tale’ continues to make waves in the film industry just few weeks after it was premiered in Ghana. ‘Checkmate & A Sting in a Tale’
Her movie is leading the more 24 nominations categories, receiving a total of 12 nominations for the Ghana Movie Awards (MAGs), slated for December 25.
The nominations were revealed at the star-studded Nominees Party held at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra on Friday November 26.
The most nominated local movie, ‘Ama Ghana’ also received 12 nominations including mentions for cinematography, editing, make-up, and effects. ‘Sinking Sands’ was not included in those categories perhaps because those departments in the production were headed by foreigners.
