Ghana: 4syte MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS Set for 19th November
By Peterking Quaye – 4syte Television has officially launched the 2011 Vodafone 4syte TV Music Video Awards in Accra over the weekend.
This year’s event is scheduled for November 19, with over 20 award categories to be determined by two ways of voting-public and judging panel. The short ceremony saw the unveiling of the various categories for the event. One important observation of this year’s edition was the increase in the number of nominations in the categories as well as the format of voting.
The question on the lips of many music lovers and most people are the impact of these awards on the industry as well as the artiste. Conspicuously missing was the list of prizes for winner of the night apart from the ‘glass object’ given during the event night.
Many stakeholders of the industry are questioning the impact of these awards on the industry, many are of the view that the huge financial injection by the corporate institutions ends up in the productions of the event to the detriment of the development of improvement of the product and the producer. One will recall the new contract signed by the same company, Vodafone to take the Ghana Music Awards sponsorship and their financially lucrative deal signed by the owners of the 4syte studio productions.
My research has also revealed that these financial injections have benefited the organizers more than the producers or the artiste of these creative goods as well the positive contribution of these organizers to the industry upliftment. Ghanaians are noted for good music but many people continue to see huge unfairness in the industry.
This year’s categories of awards include; Best Group Video, Best Choreography, Best Hiplife Video, Best Highlife Video, Best Reggae Video, Best Female Video, Best Male Video, Best Collaboration, Discovery of the Year, Best Story Line, Overall Best Video, Best African Act and Best Hip Hop Video.
This category would be judged exclusively by the public through voting by texting the “name” and the abbreviation of the category of artiste to short code 1738.
Other categories are; Best Photography, Best Directed, Best Special Effects and Best Editing which would be decided by four judges who would guided by certain factors including location, costumes, storyline and direction to reward the best quality and innovation music videos.
Launching the awards, Ms Uche Ofodile, Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Ghana, said the vibrant nature of the entertainment industry in the country encouraged Vodafone to sponsor “this spectacular event”. She was of the view that this year’s event would be phenomenal adding, it would take it to new heights coupled with unmatched experience synonymous with the Vodafone brand. “We are once again living up to our brand promise of ‘power to you’ by giving fans and the general public the power to determine who wins an award in this year’s contest”, she added.
Ms Ofodile urged all music producers to deliver innovative videos by making use of cutting edge technology to showcase powerful combination of technology and entertainment.
Mr. Ignace Hego Kwame, Chief Executive Officer, 4stye TV, said the exercise would be very transparent.
