Ghana: Who takes the artist of the year? – Ghana Music Awards 2011

By Peterking Quaye for Shout-Africa..com from Accra-Ghana – Come Saturday April 9, This year’s Ghana Music Award 2011 awards ceremony will come alive at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre .In over ten years this awards bestowed upon musicians in the country has brought a level of prestige to the music industry despite many artiste has opted out of it, it still comes with a bit of uniqueness.

Ghana Music awardsPreceding awards are mini events for the stakeholder and the musicians these includes the Ghana Music Awards Dialogue/Workshop and the Ghana Music Awards Nominees Party. The unveiling ceremony despite moulded by the rain many invited guest and artiste performing on the night defied the rain to stay on for the event to finish at the Poolside of the Golden Tulip.

The Question that comes to mind is “who takes the best artiste of the year?”From the release list these are the break downs after carefully studying  the list of music and musicians, newest Ga-English rapper and youth sensational artiste ,Trigmatic lead the nominations ,follow by Ghana’s soul touching gospel songstress Cecilia Marfo and evergreen silky voice Kwabena Kwabena lead the in pack with more nominations for this year’s MTN Ghana Music Awards . Trigmatic had seven nominations including Hip Hop Song of the Year, Best Rapper of Year, and Record of the Year and Song Writer of the Year.

Cecilia Marfo also had seven nominations; Artiste of the Year category, Gospel Song of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year and Best Female Vocal Performance of the Year.

GHANA MUSIC AWARDS GUEST INKwabena Kwabena on the other hand has six nominations; Best Collaboration of the Year and Songwriter(s) of the Year with D-Black in the song   somebody and Highlife Song of the Year with Cash Unit in the song Yaa Amponsah. From Lynx Entertainment Eazzy, Castro de destroyer, Gospel group -No Tribe, D-Black and VIP all had 5 nominations each with MTN Icon Samini also 4.

Each winner at the awards will get GH¢1, 000 with the Artiste of the Year winner walking away with a cash prize of GH¢5, 000 Ghana Cedis, an increase from last year’s GH¢3,000.

Special awards lined-up, to be picked up include Best Music for Development worth GH¢3,000 and the newly introduced special category, Life Time Achievement Award winner will get a plague and a cash prize of GH¢ 2,000.
