Imperial Tiger Comes To Jozi
By Novell Zwange – A powerful horn section, deadly percussions and relentless keyboards, is the best way one can describe the Ethiopian music gurus, Imperial Tiger Orchestra. The group comes to The Bassline, 10 Henry Nxumalo Street, Newtown Johannesburg, South Africa, tomorrow Friday, October 8 · 9:00pm – 11:30pm.
The tuneful Imperial Tiger Orchestra, is one of Geneva’s best kept secrets. The Orchestra plays revamped versions of songs from the Golden Age of Ethiopian Modern Music, combining modern and traditional inspiration into an eclectic soundscape.
The group has brought audiences in Addis Ababa to their feet, and now brings its experimental grooves to The Bassline in Newtown. A special treat for local audiences is the addition of Ethiopian masenqo player, Endres Hassen, who will accompany Imperial Tiger Orchestra for the duration of this Southern African tour.
The orchestra is being hosted by Pro Helvetia Cape Town and the African Synergy.
