List for Ghana Music Awards 2012 is out
By Peterking Quaye – Ghana’s music industry have received praise for the level of production to the entertainment industry as well as contribution to the creative industry in Africa. The quest to make a mark over the year is receiving a lot of support from corperate institutions like Vodafone.

Ghana’s rapper super heavyweight no doubt, Sarkodie is in the lead with more nomination in this year’s event. The nominees for the 2012 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards were announced this week at the studios of GH One Entertainment Television, in Accra.
Sarkodie has a total of 12 nominations which includes 3 in the Best Collaboration of the Year category for ‘Sweetio’ with Raquel, ‘U Go Kill Me’ featuring EL and ‘I’m in Love With You’ featuring Efya; songwriter of the year, Artist of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year and Album of the year.
Many critics of the local music industry says the artist in 2011 was good and had the best of promotion in terms of airplay, events and outdoor events, but faces some stiff competition from Okyeame Kwame with 9 nominations, 7 for 4×4, 6 for Stay J and 5 for Dr Cryme. Other artists with multiple nominations include Kwaw Kesse, Trigmatic, Efya, Raquel, Becca and others.
One of the big surprises was the VGMA Boards and Academy’s snubbing of Stay J for the Artiste of the Year gong. Bellow is the full list of nominations:
