New York based flutist Hadar Noiberg joins Southern Pulse
Now this time we’re talking of one of the most versatile and influential flutist, composer and arranger based in the US.
With a language that transcends her Middle Eastern roots, Hadar seamlessly fuses styles reminiscent of many different cultures making her voice one that is highly distinctive and innovative within the modern world music scene today.
Since a young age she has performed and toured with the Young Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and arranged for numerous Jazz ensembles. Hadar studied at the Tel Aviv Academy of Music with flutist Yossi Arnheim who is the principle flutist for the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. Later she transferred to the City College of New York where she completed her Bachelors degree majoring in flute and composition, studying with the acclaimed composer David Del Tredici. In 2007 Hadar received an outstanding award from the ASCAP foundation for her composition skills.
The title of Hadar’s new CD, Journey Back Home, is perfect to describe her music- growing up in Israel, in an eclectic musical culture, Hadar was surrounded by various styles of music that are a part of the Israeli melting pot such as Middle Eastern, Eastern European, Yemenite and Moroccan music. Now she is fusing those influences into her own compositions, sliding between Jazz improvisation and Western harmony to Middle Eastern rhythms and quarter tones.
Noiberg leads the all star Cuban-African group Charanga Soleil and is featuring with the top Cuban bands and artists in New York City. She is performing and touring nationally and internationally showcasing in such venues and festivals as Blue Note, Dizzy’s at Lincoln Center, Iridium, Jazz Standard, Sweet Rhythm, Smalls Jazz Club, Merkin Hall, 55 Bar, Creole Blues Festival, Michigan Women’s Festival, Midsummer Night Swing Festival just to name a few.
Hadar has featured with some of the most acclaimed artists such as Dave Valentin, Anat Cohen and the Choro Ensemble, Omer Avital, Coco Mama with Mayra Casales, Omer Avital, Alvester Garnett, Joel Frahm, Rufus Reid and many more.
After the successful CD Release tour in Israel last February, the Hadar Noiberg trio will tour Europe in October 2010.
