Nigeria: Veteran Nollywood actor passes away in India
The Nigerian entertainment industry has lost one of its members, Mr Enebeli Enebuwa. The veteran Nollywood actor, passed on at the age of 65.
Mr Enebeli gave up the ghost in the early hours of yesterday morning at the New Delhi hospital in India.
He had battled stroke for over a year before the Delta state government sponsored his treatment in India. Recently, he made the news with his controversial healing by the General Overseer of a new generation church, Perfect Christianity Ministry, in Surulere, Lagos, South-West Nigeria, and Pastor Sign Fireman.
The Pastor reportedly claimed to have healed him, posting a video of the frail actor walking around the church on YouTube. However, Mr Elebuwa’s family later debunked the Pastor’s claim.
The late Enebeli hails from Upkane in Otagunu Local Government, Delta State in the south-south region of Nigeria.
He started his career as an actor in 1967 and the first soap opera he did was the popular Mirror in the Sun. The veteran Nollywood actor also featured as a police officer in the Village Headmaster and his first movie which was on celluloid, ‘Dinner with the Devil’ produced by Sanya Dosumu, was in 1974.
The late Enebeli also had a stint in the Nigerian Broadcast Industry where he served as a producer/ director at the Nigeria Television Authority, NTA. Other Nigerian movie stars who have died recently include Sam Loco Efe, actress Geraldine Ekeocha, Yoruba actor
Ishola Durojaye Ahmed Alasari, Pa Akintola Ogungbe. Others are veteran actor Ashley Nwosu, Yoruba actor Dento, Taiwo Bello and Pete Eneh.
The late Elebuwa was born on the 14th of February, 1947. His burial arrangement will be announced by his family in due time. – By Shout-Africa Correspondent Chinyere Ogbonna
