Nigerian Media Mogul Ben Murray-Bruce to attend Tribes Of Africa by iROCK! UK
The UK-based social enterprise, iROCK! UK confirms the attendance of Nigerian media tycoon Ben Murray-Bruce to their first London fundraiser Tribes of Africa scheduled for Africa Day, 26 May. The event, set to take place at the prestigious Grange Tower Bridge Hotel in the heart of the city promises to bring the crème de la crème of the African diaspora together in support of iROCK! UK, which aims to provide young people of ethnic backgrounds with work placement and employment opportunities.
Ben Murray-Bruce serves the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Silverbird Group which he founded in 1980 with a 20,000 Naira (£78 in today’s money) loan from his father and which now is an multi-million-pound conglomerate and one of the largest entertainment empires in Africa spanning across three radio stations, Rhythm 93.7 in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, Silverbird Television, the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant, Silverbird Cinema, Silverbird Entertainment, Silverbird Productions and Silverbird Malls.
Also a motivational speaker and a role model for Nigeria’s youth, Mr. Murray-Bruce has attended numerous prestigious conferences worldwide as a keynote speaker, most recently at the MIT Africa Innovate Conference in Boston in April 2012.
“In an age where attending school does not guarantee education, and education does not always mean attending school, as someone who believes in the need for young black men and women to educate themselves and work twice as hard as their white counterparts to get to positions of authority, I firmly support what Viola is trying to achieve with iROCK! UK,” said Mr. Murray-Bruce speaking from Heathrow Airport while boarding his return flight to Lagos last week.
“As with any initiative which rallies for education and empowerment of youth, I am fully behind iROCK! UK and will be attending their event in May,” he added.
“We are extremely pleased, as a young social enterprise, to garner the support of such an important African media figure and look forward to seeing him as one of our guests of honour on the night and forging a strong relationship to bring iROCK! to Nigeria,” said Viola Ncube, the founder of iROCK! UK who took home the Female Entrepreneur of the Year at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards 2012 over the weekend.
