Ruffcut$ boss plays gangster in Nollywood movie
By Kenneth Matimaire -MUTARE – Ruffcut$ clothing and entertainment empire boss, Marco Machona stars as a gun-trotting gangster in an action packed Nollywood movie titled “Love in 72 Hours.”
Machona plays the character of Tony – a ruthless, gun waving and trigger pulling muscle man who did anything to protect his boss. The brand executive also made use of his personal Ruffcut$ Ride – a 1955 Ford Mercury, which was hired in the movie.
The Nollywood production is about a crazy, hyper young man (Tony’s Boss) with enough loot and clout to have bodyguards fighting over a chick.
The whole fight rubs on egos, clash of personalities and essence of manhood thereby generating into a huge fiasco that endangers everyone.
The fast-paced action movie was shot in various parts of Africa but mainly in South Africa. It features a cast from Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Mozambique, Cameroon, Portugal and SA’s, Alfred Ntombela who features in various Leon Schuster movies.
Machona said having various actors from different countries did not spare the set from a clash of egos but hastened to say “the chemistry was good for the movie” since it brought out “perfection of acting as we wanted to outdo each other a lot.”
The SA based Zimbabwean further said playing gangster Tony was like a walk in the park as he had his past bad boy image to thank.
“I think I grew up a true gangster, for real. I have changed over the years. I was a bad boy. I was always armed and ready to fight,” he revealed.
Machona added that he did not encounter any problems memorising his lines either since he boasts of more than 25 years flirting with the silver screen.
“I have always been acting since my youth. Dr Susan Haines was my theatre and acting instructor in Zimbabwe,” said Machona adding that he has featured in several films in Germany and USA including the French movie, “Aristotle’s Place.”
He said acting has never been his full time job but will always respond to a “good call.”
The Masvingo born and bred entrepreneur founded Ruffcut$ in 2001. The company which is now based in South Africa has other branches in China, Zambia, Botswana, and Brazil. It designs and manufactures products that are exported to Vietnam, Malaysia, Turkey and many other African countries.
