Sibo Bero Crowned Face of Zimbabwe
SIBO BERO, a Zimbabwean medical student based in Wuhan, Hubei, China has won the public vote to be crowned Face of Zimbabwe 2012 in a tightly contested Face of Zimbabwe international pageant.
The internet based competition, organised by KMG Media and sponsored by World Remit allows Zimbabweans all over the world to enter. The pageant is an international showcase of Zimbabwe’s beauty, charity and tourism with the prime purpose of marketing Zimbabwe abroad.
UK based Ohleen Munyanyi was voted the 1st runner-up after garnering the second highest public votes. The teenager also won the vote of the other contestants to scoop the Beauty with a Purpose prize based on her dedication to Face of Zimbabwe charity work which saw her organise a highly successful talent show at her school to fundraise for children in Zimbabwe. Thelma Muvirimi, a student based in Durban South Africa accrued the third highest votes which saw her being crowned Face of Zimbabwe princess Award.
The competition which runs for a full year has seen hundreds of hopefuls apply for a chance to win the coveted crown. With the other monthly finalists based in several countries such as Kaya Chipungu and Lisa Mhloyi in the USA, Jacqueline Tinkenawo, Tinashe Kamangira and Nokuthaba Vuma in UK, Lisa Marovanidze in Canada, Sophia Chitemere in South Africa, Ashley Magumise in New Zealand and Angeline Mandaba in Zimbabwe, Face of Zimbabwe has established itself as a unique and popular showcase for Zimbabweans all over the world.
Speaking after the results an ecstatic Sibo Bero said “The Zimbabwean people have blessed me. I want to thank every single person who wished me well, those that encouraged me, believed in me and especially those that cast their vote. Your voices were heard and now I stand crowned Face of Zimbabwe 2012”
The young beauty, described by many as a ‘dead ringer’ for Stomp the Yard American Actress Meagan Good has received hundreds of congratulatory messages from the public on her facebook page. One of her friends, Chiedza Audrey Muchenje said the beauty was on course to achieve her life-long passion “to change people’s lives” using the face of Zimbabwe platform to raise awareness for children in need.
Sibo’s mother, Lyn Bero couldn’t contain her joy and pride over her daughter’s achievements. She spoke of how Sibo had been involved in voluntary work at Chinyaradzo Children’s Home from a very young age. “I think she is ready for this challenge and I am so delighted that the Zimbabwean people have seen through her beauty into her heart” she added.
A spokesperson for Face of Zimbabwe, said “We are happy that all the finalists were worthy and committed tourism and charity ambassadors and we couldn’t be more delighted for Sibo Bero who is, in every sense the epitome of Zimbabwean beauty”. He added, “The distinction between Face of Zimbabwe and other pageants is that the winner is chosen by the voting public so in every sense, Sibo is a reflection of Zimbabwean people’s judgment of beauty and we believe the voting public got it right”.
