South Africa: Ngoma Africa Music Awards
South Africa would by the end of 2012 witness its own African music awards ceremony. Johannesburg, the creative, entertainment and cultural hub of Africa, with its world class African status, and state-of-the-art facilities, will host the event
Ngoma Africa Music Awards will celebrate and expose African Creativity and Spirit. “We have realised that there is a huge gap in terms of experiencing a Pan African Music Awards within South Africa. The Ngoma Africa Music Awards will close the gap by launching in South Africa November 2012, marking a New Era in African Entertainment that would revitalise the Rainbow Nation’s artistic place on the African continent,” stated the Founder / Chairman of the Awards, Johnny Muteba.
Added the Filmmaker, Business man and Arts administrator: “South Africa must play a significant role in the development of African music; especially as it possesses all the necessary ingredients – weather, transport, expertise, culture and infrastructure.
We therefore propose the Ngoma Africa Music Awards, an annual music awards ceremony designed to recognize, celebrate and award the best African musicians, producers and marketers.
Our aim is to actively forge working relationships among artists in Africa, and between African artists and international artists; picking up where the World Cup left off in terms of creating jobs in South Africa and once again bringing positive attention to the country by hosting this prestigious event.
We are passionate about our continent, the arts, and about our people. We also believe that with this proposed venture, corporate entities, entrepreneurial exploits, arts and culture practitioners and even some public sectors are bound to benefit, one way or the other.
The event embraces innovation in the music sector, providing direct benefits to the citizens of Africa and improves music making and will involve creative partnerships that will result in better outcomes and build sustainable relationships between musicians and other social partners through alternative approaches to participation and consultation.
Ngoma Africa’s mission statement is to provide a platform where music makers can showcase their works and increase the opportunities to maximize their full deserved potential in distribution, marketing and industry recognition.
Its vision is to elevate and promote Africa’s image and profile, Creative South Africa & Partners are committed to bring the Awards to you every year, judges and committee members alike are incredibly concerned with ensuring that the awards are run fairly and with the music industry’s best thoughts at heart.
