STANDARD BANK JOY OF JAZZ – A Celebration Of Women Power
JOHANNESBURG – Top female performers from South Africa and the world will grace the stages of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz in the month in which South Africa celebrates its women.
When Newtown dubbed the City of Gold’s cultural hub is transformed into a hotbed of jazz music for three days from August 26 to 28, some explosive and memorable women will take centre stage in a not-to-be-missed occurrence.
The organisers have provided an impressive line-up of international and local talent ranging from New York clarinet virtuoso Anat Cohen and Mali’s role model for modern women Oumou Sangare to Melanie Scholtz, the Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz for 2010.
Other performers include Cape Town’s Auriol Hays, US R&B and jazz sensation Lalah Hathaway, style icon Nhlanhla Nciza, American jazz vocalist Stacey Kent and South African songstresses Wanda Baloyo and Pu2ma.
