By Novell Zwange – Stellar lineup of diverse SA talent for Gauteng Heritage Day celebration
A stellar lineup of diverse South African talent has just been announced as part of the entertainment line-up at the Gauteng Provincial Government’s Heritage Day celebrations at Maropeng.
Afrikaans pop star Dozi (who recently wowed a big crowd at the Jazz on the Lake), award-winning Afro-Pop outfit Malaika, Maskandi trio, Izintombi Zika Shwi (whose debut album was produced by Shwi of Shwi Nomtekhala fame) and Velaphi will be performing for an estimated 8000 people at Maropeng.
The musicians are expected to add significantly to an already exciting line-up of activities at Maropeng in the Cradle of Humankind on September 24 that is going under the banner, “Celebrating our treasure, our heritage”.
As Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Nelisiwe Moerane says, “The day is about taking off from the incredible sense of cultural unity that came out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and we’re thrilled to have such a diverse line-up of musicians on the bill.”
The Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, will be addressing the event and will be accompanied by other MECs and local Mayors. As part of the formal programme, Premier Mokonyane will also be paying tribute and give certificates to volunteers who took part in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2009 Confederation Cup.
This is the second batch of certificates of appreciations to be awarded by the Premier. The first batch was awarded at the MTN- 8 semi-final match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
