Young South African Entreprenuer Launches Music & Journalism Platform
By Novell Zwange – JOHANNESBURG -Young South African blogger, promoter, and emerging entrepreneur Temba Ndala launches “1st Friday™” a platform for musicians and music journalists. The inaugural “1st Friday™” will be hosted at Café 52 in Arcadia, Pretoria/Tshwane, South Africa, where musicians, critics and journalists will convene and discuss the showbiz, network, create content, exchange knowledge, and develop strategies for supporting each other in enhancing quality work as well as music reporting.
“1st Friday™” the events are set to travel around the country and will take place every First Friday night of each calendar month, the main focus being music journalism. “1st Friday™” will showcase various music performances featuring unsigned artists and provide a platform for the music industry professionals to learn about music journalism from various experts drawn from both the electronic and print media.
Besides the performances the night will host an invited guest speaker to discuss chosen topics that include; music journalism, media coverage, music as a business, promotions, and music trends.
A hostess or host public figure, pop-artist/celebrity will grace the night as a form of support to new and upcoming artists. Established musicians will also join their emerging counterparts as the industry seeks to boost the viability of South African Music.
Ndala says, “The objective of this initiative is to create a relationship between unsigned artists, Indies (Independent Record Labels) and music journalists, as well as to educate artists and record labels on how media operates around music journalism.”
“1st Friday™ seeks to educate artists and record labels on how maximize on new media platforms and web technology to create a reliable fan base and grow their following. It is also an ideal event for music journalists to discover new artists, record companies and current music trends.”
“1st Friday™” hopes to engage the music journalists in bid to improve relations with the artists and help develop the music industry in a collaborative way.
“1st Friday™” will also feature DJs, Kwaito, House Artists. Participating artists are encouraged to bring and sell their merchandise. Artists interested in taking part can send their Performance Application, 3 – 5 High Res’ Photos, Edited & Proof Read Biography, 3 Tracks (mp3 format).
1st Friday™ artists profile, reviews and critics will be streamed via www.thembandala.com (a media & music website)
Photos and reviews for the evening will also be published on the website.
The website is “Social Media Friendly” powered by Facebook, Twitter, Digg, YouTube and Last.fm APIs for external interaction with the user(s) registered on ether of the mention social media websites.
