Zimbabwe: Blessing Chibaya destined for greater heights
By Alfred Tembo – BLESSING Chibaya a young upcoming gospel sensation, has tightened her shoe laces to join into the tightly contested main stream music industry by releasing her debut scorcher.
The nine track volatile gospel album titled, “The sky is the limit” is laden with some power and spirit up lifting songs, fused with all types of music genres to cater for everyone’s needs.
Chibaya started her singing career at the age of 10 in a small church choir called Kingdom Kids for at least 4 years. After a series of attachments with a number of gospel ensembles, between 2000 and 2004 she teamed up with a friend to establish a short lived gospel outfit called Victory, joining Called to Worship, which was established by Pastor Kelly Rusike of Gweru, although the group prospered and performed in churches which she felt was not enough if she was to win lost souls. In 2007, an uplifting prophesy by Pastor Magwenju of Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM) revealed her potential in becoming a preacher using her musical talent.
“Pastor Magwenju professed, that l had a talent of singing and if wanted to make it with a bang l had to be strong and work towards it.
“I started singing in the Praise and Worship team that was when other members of the church realized my talent in singing and profess came to life fulfilled.” said the 21 year old promising.
The songwriter cum musician said for her to seat down to write all starts with images that reveals a lot of messages that take Godly wisdom to interpret for other people’s understanding.
“I penned down the vision as they come, like it is said in the bible write down the vision and those who see it will run with it in Habakkuk 2vs 3 confirms.
“I then took the initial stages to facilitate for my vision to come to life, by running a hair saloon at home, a thing that prompted my parents to take me serious and helped me raise the money which was need to for recording. Late last year l started recording till March of this year.” she said.
Inspired by Jack Madondo a well accomplished musician, considering her age and success that seem to tally Chibaya said she now enjoys listening to her own voice.
Chibaya a Marketing student with a local private college comments, “ l enjoying listening to my self , and with gospel music l feel released in spirit and with the burning l felt l had to singing it out to let because l find music as one captivating evangelism tool”
The album was produced by Peter Muparutsa at recorded at Shed Studio and carries Seiko, Muhupano Hwenyu, Jesu Igweta, Usamurega, Waruza, He never Changes, among others.
However on a different note Nyaradzo Mawarire also dropped her debut album title Neropa Regwayana. The six track album was produced Lyton Ngolomi at Layton Studios the same stable that recorded the high flying gospel musician Blessing Shumba. The self titled album is loaded with praise and worship songs that include Rugara Mumoyo, Makakodzera, Neropa Regwayana, Chisikwa Chitsva, Nemuzita raJesu and Hupenyu usina Jesu.
Speaking on her music, the youthful professional secretary said, “My music talks about the life, the light that you have and that you are. As people we should be confident to understand that we have the power to change our situations and this only through faith
“Basically this describes my music, approaches. On the other hand, if you listen to Rugare Mumoyo, it clearly hints on the need to be worry free in your life, for “… he will never live you or forsake you…” that is in Isaiah and Exodus.”
