Zimbabwe : Deep Roots pianist heads Vatican Delegates

By Alfred Tembo – Tawanda Michael Mukoko, Deep Roots musical ensemble has taken up a spiritual path in addition to his well mastered musical career which he built lately in the circular music.

Speaking to Shout-Africa.com Mukoko said being a founding member of the Vatican Delegates has brought him closer to God.

“It is great for men to find your purpose in the services of the Lord. We have done all great thing that can be expected of us, but with God they are nothing until we find our purposes in his services”  said Mukoko.

Vatican Delegates performed at the Catholic Christmas Carols, held yesterday at St Teresa Parish’s Cathedral Hall.

The catholic ensemble wish to redefine the way musical instruments are perceived in the African society.

He further explained that, “We are looking at enculturation of Christianity, Africa musical instruments do not conflict with any religious doctrines but its what us people do with that may conflict with our region”

Vatican Delegates recently went into church records for playing Joy to the world, Jingle bells, Silent night among other songs.  Spicing Catholic hymns was the first thing to happen across Zimbabwe in the books of Catholic to happen.

“You should keep on work hard like you are doing,. This is great music.” said Father Mapwashile in his remarks to the group.

However Vatican Delegates consists of Chiedza Maphos, Sharon Stanford Hussein Lawrence Marakiya, Tawanda Mukoko, Tafadzwa Mlambo  who are the founding members.  All hail from from two parishes Teresa and St Michaels.

Mukoko who has played with one of Gweru’s best contemporary out fit called the Deep Roots, is a student at Midlands Music Academy Apart of being singled out as one of the finest pianist, he also partnered with his friend Tafadzwa Mlambo to become the best Gweru Urban Choirs and Mlambo scoping the best choir master for St Cecilia National Catholic Choral Completions that were held recently at Midlands State University.
