Zimbabwe: Malaika Mashandu appointed FOZ Brand Ambassador
Preparation for the Gtel Face of Zimbabwe December finals have been stepped up a notch with the appointment this week of former Miss Zimbabwe (2011), Malaika Mashandu as the competition’s brand ambassador. The pageant also announced that Cape Town based beauty, Bianca Mpopoma won the public and judges’ vote to become Miss September.
Malaika, who is a popular and probably one of the most successful former Miss Zimbabwe in the modern day era, will front Face of Zimbabwe’s marketing campaign, the grooming of the finalists ahead of the finals and street casting sessions to attract quality contestants to the competition.
Already attracting interest from several models, the competition is set to allow winners from other pageants to join the finals as wildcards in what is shaping up to be one of the biggest beauty contest for Zimbabweans from all over the world.
Speaking to StarFM in an interview with DJ Munya about her FOZ assignment, Malaika said she was looking forward to the challenge. She said “There are some of the most beautiful girls fighting for this prestigious title and I can’t wait to get started and lend my help.” Face of Zimbabwe is now up there as one of the best pageant in the country and I am truly honoured to be a part” She added.
The Miss September winner, Bianca Mpopoma will become one of the 12 finalists who will compete in the finals. The 21 year old beauty who was in the top six of the Miss Global International pageant attributed her success to hard work and an effective delivery by her campaign manager Andrew Tatenda Nhema who helped take her message to voters.
Launched last year to promote the country abroad, Face of Zimbabwe has seen huge international interest, attracting finalists from China, UK, USA, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and Zimbabwe. The competition selects a finalist every month with the 12 monthly finalists squaring up at the end of the year to compete for the crown.
Last year the monthly finalists played a critical role in selling Zimbabwe’s tourism destinations to the world and raised significant sums of money for orphaned children in the Epworth area.
The competition’s Marketing Director, Mike Tashaya revealed in a recent interview that the competition’s finals, sponsored by leading telecoms firm, G Telecoms will take place on the 15th of December at the HICC. “We are looking forward to putting together an event of international standards, showcasing the best of Zimbabwe’s Beauty and Tourism” said Mr Tashaya.
