Ghana: GHATEXPO 2011- Set for September 2011
By Peterking Quaye – The first ever Ghana Apparel and Textile Exposition 2011 will come off in September 2011. This is expected to bring together manufacturer of local garment and textiles.
Ahead of the event a sensitization workshop has been held in Accra during the week to bring stakeholders, the government and the media to help in promoting the industry .
The theme for this year edition is “Promoting the Textile & Garment industry in Ghana”
Looking at the present state of the Ghanaian textile industry, one will clear see that it is lagging behind as a result of neglect by government and the inability to develop the skills of local entrepreneurs in the industry .
Speaking at the workshop, Mrs Gifty Agosu, CEO of Maimus TCI Ltd, was of the view that the garment and textile has come a long way and need such an exposition to develop and help the economy to expand . “We need the help of government to promote the industry as it’s said to be the largest in the world” if they are no here this sends a strong message she added.
The Exposition is expected to bring together more than 100 exhibitors from around the country and possibly some foreign company to exhibit their products and services during the fair.
Resource persons at the workshop include GIPC ,GATCI took participant through the process of acquiring investment certification role of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre works ,supports and and other industry players ,they shared their views and encourage the support of made in Ghana products . The GHATEXPO 2011 is sponsored by Fidelity Bank, ad Zone ,Daily Guide, Adom Fm among others.
