Offshore West Africa 2013 opened by Ghanaian Minister of Energy and Petroleum

20th March 2013; Offshore West Africa Conference and Exhibition 2013 opened officially on Tuesday 19th March 2013 to an international audience of over 1,000 visitors and delegates from 37 countries Worldwide.

Attendees to Offshore West Africa 2013, the region’s premier conference and exhibition for the offshore oil and gas exploration & production industries, included many major operators, with over 20% of attendees coming from outside of the West African region. The international reach of Offshore West Africa is confirmed with attendees from as far afield as Brazil, Singapore, US and Canada, as well as good support from the UK and mainland Europe.

Under the Patronage of the Ministry of Energy, Republic of Ghana, and Endorsed by the Petroleum Commission Ghana, the 17th annual Offshore West Africa once again addresses key technology and development issues for the West African offshore oil and gas market, through a comprehensive educational program and three‐day exhibition, under the theme – Deepwater Discoveries, Emerging Opportunities.

Hosted by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and sponsored by Tullow Oil, Schlumberger, ABS, Shell, Modec, NNPC, 2H Offshore, Hewlett Packard, Lloyd’s Register, Aker Solutions and Lufkin, Offshore West Africa 2013 is on track to be one of the most successful in its 17 year history.

The Opening Plenary Session officially started the Offshore West Africa conference, in front of over 350 people inside the Congress Hall. Speaking at the Opening Plenary were:

Also acknowledged during the Opening Plenary was Mr. Isa Inuwa, representing the GMD of GNPC.

Mr. Inuwa is the NNPC’s Chief Compliance Officer and members of the corporation’s management.

After the Opening Plenary, the Offshore West Africa 2013 Exhibition was officially opened with the Ribbon Cutting by Mr. Theo Ahwireng, Geophysics Manager, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation; Mr. Isa Inuwa, Chief Compliance Officer, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation; and Mr. David Paganie, Chief Editor, Offshore magazine, PennWell Corporation.

The Offshore West Africa Opening Debate, in front over more than 180 people was chaired by Mr. Toyin Akinosho, Africa Oil and Gas Report and Mr. Theo Ahwireng, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, with contributions from Prof. Wumi Iledare, Louisiana State University, Mr. Rolando Gachter, IPA, and Mr. Bogomolov Pavel Vladimirovich, LUKOIL.

Over the 2 and a half days, Offshore West Africa will deliver a high quality conference program with over 45 leading speakers including further presentations from GNPC, NNPC, Tullow Oil, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, TOTAL, DNV, SNEP Co, ENI, ExxonMobil, Wood Group, Technip and many more, covering a range of subjects from Well Construction & Drilling Operations to Local Content.

Offshore West Africa 2013 will finish proceedings with an Awards Ceremony and Closing Remarks, including presentations from Mr. David Paganie, Chief Editor, Offshore Magazine, and Mr. Theo Ahwireng, Geophysics Manager, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, on 21st March 2013 at 12.00pm.
