Shout – Africa – Africa Day Boat Race – London of 25th May 2013
Dear Readers,
I am putting up this posting so as to let you all know of what is happening. I know that you appreciate both the significance and the uniqueness of the boat race within the context of amateur African participation in British sporting boat culture. And moreover, that you are most keen to attend on the day. However, I am forced to bring to your attention that the event is in potential jeopardy by virtue of the fact that several sponsorship business and institutions that we were expecting to endorse the event have decided to renege on our agreement. This now means that with time being of the gravest essence there is now an urgent need to have sufficient funds available for the race to go ahead otherwise regrettably it will be aborted or postponed. With this in mind, I am here and now requesting that anyone truly committed to the event becoming a reality, bring to my attention any potential donors or sponsors that I can confidently approach and secondly I would like to prevail upon you now to make a contribution commensurate with your personal circumstance.
However there is more. Firstly I need to extend a whole hearted and truthfully apologise to you all given that you anticipated that the event would be free on the day. This was indeed Shout-Africa most ardent intention. However truth be told, this intention was based on the anticipation of input and funds to cover all the running cost and some extras. This now does not appear materialised. Secondly I can say that Shout-Africa has £2,000 as a core contribution for the event but we need around £6,500 in total to make the event a truly credible, dignified and proud showcase for this remarkable event to take place and be both socially and culturally enriching.
Yours warmly
Misheck Mberi
