Zimbabwe’s First Free Online Wedding Publication set to release latest edition
By Ronnie Chisamba – Svitsa, Zimbabwe’s first free online wedding publication, is set to release its much awaited for third edition on the 10th of this month. The announcement was made by Nyasha Gurure (25),the magazine’s chief executive officer and founder,on social media recently.
Svitsa has had 2 editions since its launch on 31 January 2020. The publication of the forthcoming edition marks a milestone as it comes at a time when corporates have registered a drop in business due to economic challenges bedevilling Zimbabwe. The poor economic climate has been aggravated by the countrywide lockdown which was put in place by the government in an effort to curb the spread of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. A publication in its infancy ,Svitsa has managed to fight the negative odds to ensure its survival.
The name of the magazine is derived from a Shona (one of Zimbabwe’s common languages) word which means dignified matrimony. lts – the publication’s – sole purpose is to celebrate the concept of love, marriage and wedding.
Nyasha had this to say about the naming of the magazine: “l realised that placing the matrimony in Shona would show how proud we are to celebrate Zimbabwean weddings in a modern way – an avenue which is not divorced from our traditions and cultures as a people. “
Each edition of Svitsa hosts brides and grooms and offers advice to brides to be. “The idea behind Svitsa is to celebrate with those who would have found love. At the same time we want to give hope and encouragement to those aiming to discover and embrace the golden four letter word:love,” explained Nyasha.
