Ghana: Save Us Korle Bu Children Block launched

By Peterking Quaye  – The Korle Bu aching Hospital Children’s Block over the years have served as a source of refuge for the children in this country. Based on this premise a fund, “Save Korle Bu Children Block”, has been launched this week.

Save Us Korle Bu Children Block The Block has come under severe condition that makes its operations difficult. The time for the children’s block to be renovated and expanded to cater for the growing number that need it services has come.

Children and their families should no longer have to be forced to share beds. Goodwill Ambassadors Foundation and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital  are set to help to an effort to raise $ 23,000,0000 to renovate, expand and transform the Children Block into a state-of-the –art facility to admit and cater for  the medical needs of the children of Ghana and the sub region.

“Save Korle Bu Children Block” the campaign will run for one year.

At a well organized launching ceremony, attended by Honourable Fritz Baffour, and the CEO of Korle, Bu teaching hospital . Hon. Baffour  it was made clear that there were  inadequate  beds and at the nation’s and west Africa most referral hospital and due to this lack of space many sick children are forced to share beds with other sick babies which will clearly increase the chance of cross infection. He expressed worry about the state of medical facility for the children. His appeal was people should help to save the Children’s Block and called on all Ghanaians to donate to worthy cause of this nature .

In her speech Professor Bamenla Goka, Head of Department made known the plight of the Emergency Ward of Korle Bu. She appealed for help for the centre as cases to the centre keep increasing everyday and there is also an inadequacy of space and beds which means that sick children are forced to endure and also explained that the effect of such situation as alarming.

The refurbishment of the emergency ward is the first of 3 –phase refurbishment expansion at a total cost of $ 22,686 and still more is needed to help to complete the project as the centre is very important to the nation and other sub-regional patients.

The launching of this campaign is to attract support to help the Children Block and save life of children in Ghana.
