Jobs – Chief Executive Officer at FarmAfrica
Jobs
Chief Executive Officer
The great majority of people living in rural Africa rely on the food they grow and the animals they keep to survive. Faced with harsh conditions, a paucity of essential resources, and limited access to markets, subsistence farmers have a constant struggle.
FARM-Africa was founded in 1985 with a mission to offer marginal farmers, herders and forest dwellers pathways out of poverty through participation in community-supported, technologically innovative and market linking projects that tap into people’s desire and capacity to improve their lives. A registered charity with an office in the UK, over 90% of FARM-Africa’s staff are African, working directly with communities in eastern Africa. Pragmatic, innovative, and recognised internationally for its specialist expertise and high level influence that put it at the forefront of tropical agricultural development, FARM-Africa has pioneered new models of sustainable farming and forest management that can be replicated widely and increase the impact on the lives of millions of Africans.
FARM-Africa is seeking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic new Chief Executive. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the CEO will provide strong leadership and strategic direction for FARM-Africa and be accountable for its continuing financial sustainability, innovative development, and high quality of delivery. A proven track record of successfully managing growth and change in a substantial organization is essential, as is the appropriate standing to act as an effective ambassador for FARM-Africa to a wide variety of national and international stakeholders. Candidates should have experience of working in an African environment and, ideally, in the renewable natural resources sector. Above all, they will bring a genuine personal commitment to the mission, values and vision of the organization. The post will be based in London.
