E.C Church of Liberia Honors Bishop Powell
… Extols him for developmental Initiatives – The Evangelical Congregational Church of Liberia (ECCOL) has honored its Bishop, Rt. Rev. G. Abraham Powell for numerous contributions to the Church in Liberia.
Speaking on behalf of the Congregation in Liberia, the Special Assistant to Bishop Powell, Solomon Smith said the Church decided to bestow the honor on the Bishop due his developmental initiatives for the first time in the history of the Church.
Special Assistant Smith said since taking over by Bishop G. Abraham Powell as head of the E.C. Church, there has been great transformation of the Church in Liberia.
He said under the leadership of Bishop Powell, the E.C. Church has engaged in several ventures which are yielding positive impact.
He named scholarships for Church members, the construction of Churches and schools, assisting other Liberians and a humble leadership of Christian love and unity, as some of the worthy initiatives of the ECCOL Bishop.
For his part, Bishop Powell described the honor as a surprise as he least expected it.
Bishop Powell indicated that with such an honor, he is motivated to do more as Bishop of the Evangelical Congregational Church of Liberia (ECCOL).
In an interview with reporters, the ECCOL Bishop said through his steward, the Church is carrying on the construction of schools and Churches in eight of the 15 counties of Liberia.
He asserted that the E.C. Church is sponsoring Members in schools and will continue to assist in achieving quality education.
Bishop Powell said that the Church is intending to initiate a program to provide skills training for Members and youths in the country.
The ECCOL Bishop noted that the Church through its NGO, “Evangelical Children Rehabilitation Program (ECREP),” has provided job opportunities for several Liberians.
Bishop Powell asserted that through ECREP, communities and four health centers in rural Montserrado County have benefitted from safe drinking water through the sponsorship of WaterAid Liberia.
When quizzed by reporters on how the Church could help in the fight of corruption in the country, the E.C. Church Bishop said the fight of corruption should commence from the homes.
He wants parents instill discipline in their children and ensure that attitudes and behavior that have the ability to make them come up badly, be dealt with.
The ECCOL Bishop also disclosed that plans are underway to provide training for bike riders to enable them prepare themselves for the future.
He commended members of the E.C. Church of Liberia for the level of cooperation received as he steers the affairs of the Church.
Bishop G. Abraham Powell was recently honored by the E.C. Church of Liberia at the 52nd Conference of the Church.
