Former Minister to Pay Or Go To Jail
By Own Correspondent – Sierra Leone’s former Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment or pay a fine of Le150m and a restitution of Le 300m totalling Le 450 million (about $120,000) which must be paid within the next four weeks.
As the trial of Haja Afsatu Kabba ends today at the Freetown High Court No. 2 presided over by Justice Samuel Ademosu, she was found guilty on five counts of misappropriation of public funds and acquitted and discharged on two counts of alleged abuse of office.
Since the beginning of 2010, the Anti Corruption Commission ACC instituted charges misappropriation of public funds and abuse of office on Haja Kabba who is a staunch member of the ruling All Peoples Congress APC party.
Kabba’s supporters were outside the court building to cheer her up with some songs of thanks saying they are happy that the matter has been finally concluded.
