Gambia: Boy burns mother to death
By Own Correspondent – Residents of Bundung in the KanifingMunicipality were Monday shocked by news that one Meta Jammeh, a young man believed to be in his 20s, had allegedly beaten his biological mother and then burnt her to death.The victim, Fatou Sambou, was reportedly beaten by her own son to such an extent that she became unconscious, before he (the son) closed the door to her house and set her on fire, using a mattress that was in the house.
The unfortunate incident, according to family sources, followed a series of warnings by the son that he will kill his mother.
“It was when people realized that there was fire in the deceased person’s house that neighbors broke into the house, and put out the fire,” a family source said, adding that the deceased was then rushed to the JammehFoundationHospital, where she was clinically pronounced dead.
The suspect, family sources added, fled shortly after the incident and, at the time of going to press, his whereabouts were not confirmed.
When contacted, Superintendent Sulayman Secka, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the story.
