By Gambia Correspondent – As the Bank Donates D250, 000 to UTG – Barely a month after it presented a cheque amounting to D250, 000 to the Rotary Club of Banjul, Trust Bank Gambia Limited has once again in fulfillment of its corporate social responsibility donated D250, 000 to the University of the Gambia.
Regarded as the most innovative and one of the leading banks in the country, Trust Bank, two times winner of the GCCI Banker of the year award, has over the years contributed significantly towards the development of the Gambia in various sectors key among which are education, health, and youth and sports.
The donation is part of a scholarship fund for outstanding students with very little means of financing their education.
In presenting the cheque to the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Gambia, Pa Mamcumba Njie, Managing Director of Trust Bank said 21st century challenges requires 21st century know-how, adding that is why his bank will never relent in their quest to share the little they have to help organizations in the Gambia that are pivotal in the realization of these goals.
According to Pa Njie, Trust Bank is proud of its long standing and enduring association with the University of the Gambia. “We see ourselves as major stakeholders of this institution and as such will always endeavor to make a contribution where we can, for its continued success,” he said at the presentation held at the bank’s head office in Banjul.
The Trust Bank boss highlighted his bank’s recognition of the fact that the University of the Gambia is and will continue to be the main driving force in providing the Gambia with the requisite capacity to deal with the challenges of the 21st century and to also achieve the Millennium Development Goals and Vision 2020.
“Earlier this month, we donated D250, 000 to the Rotary Club of Banjul for the completion of a modern science lab for schools within the Greater Banjul Area in addition to another D1 Million we donated them earlier,” he said.
He added that “Today, after consultation with the UTG, we are pleased to be making a presentation of D250, 000 as part of a scholarship fund for outstanding students with very little or no mean of financing their education.”
With this, he went on, the bank is creating another facet in its relationship with the highest citadel of learning in this country.
“This is in addition to our yearly sponsorship of some aspects of the convocation ceremony and the award of prizes to outstanding graduates,” he added.
Njie commended the University of the Gambia for providing the bank with yet another opportunity to demonstrate its uniqueness in the financial services industry of the Gambia.
In receiving the gesture, Professor Muhammed Kah, Vice Chancellor of the University of the Gambia commended Trust Bank for the gesture, noting that the bank has been supportive to the UTG over the years.
“Any time we knock on your doors, you always respond positively in the quest to provide quality education,” Kah stated.
According to Professor Kah, the University of the Gambia has significantly contributed towards the human resources development of the Gambia and the banking sector is not an exception.
“We have developed our young men and women to contribute their quota. This gesture will help the needy and poor who cannot afford to pay UTG tuition fees,” Kah further stated.
He urged other institutions to emulate Trust Bank efforts in providing quality education. “What you are doing today is a right course everyone needs to follow. This is the biggest gift of the year so far. The money will be put in to good used,” Kah assured the bank officials.
Dodou Nyang, Trust Bank’s Marketing Manager who chaired the ceremony, reiterated his bank’s commitment in providing funds to the education sector, adding that the bank has on so many occasions, demonstrated it corporate social responsibilities.
