GAUTENG Launches The Biggest Intergrated Housing Development
JOHANNESBURG – Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale; Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane; MEC for Local Government and Housing Kgaogelo Lekgoro and the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Amos Masondo, will tomorrow, August 17, officially launch the Lufhereng housing development in Soweto by handing over some of the completed houses to beneficiaries.
Established in line with the Breaking New Ground policy, the development is aimed at building a sustainable community located closer to economic opportunities and able to provide residents with social and economic amenities such as schools, crèches, churches, clinics, parks as well as business nodes.
Lufhereng is the biggest mixed housing development in the province and by the time it is completed, it is expected that it would have created 24 000 housing opportunities. To date 907 units have been completed.
The project is a joint venture between the national Department of Human Settlements, Gauteng Provincial Government and the City of Johannesburg.
