Germany Offers Sports Scholarship To Ugandan Coach
A Ugandan swimming coach and trainer has been awarded a five-month sports scholarship in Germany. Mr. Muwanguzi Muzafaru, who will travel to the University of Leipzig for his studies, is the fifth Ugandan recipient of a sports scholarship from Germany this calendar year.
The Charge d’Affaires at the German Embassy Kampala, Mr. Stefan Messerer, officially handed over the scholarship documents to Mr. Muzufaru in the presence of the President of the Uganda Swimming Federation, Mr. Donald Rukare. The Commissioner for Physical Education in the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr. Daniel Tamwesigire, and German Sports Expert, Mr. Gunter Lange also attended the ceremony.
Mr. Muzafaru is not only the trainer of the Uganda Youth National Team, but also a sports teacher in various institutions in Kampala.
German-Ugandan relations are firmly rooted and manifold. In the field of sports they aim at sustainable structural capacity-building. A long-term technical sports project had been launched in 2009 promoting sports development in particular with German sports expert Mr. Lange as an adviser to the project being seconded to the Physical Education and Sports Department of the Ministry of Education & Sports.
The scholarship awarded is so far the fifth sports scholarship in this calender year offered by Germany.
The German Foreign Ministry has been participating in the promotion of international sports for nearly 50 years. In that time, over 1300 short- and long-term projects have been promoted in the developing world in close cooperation with organizations like the sport science departments of the Universities of Leipzig and Mainz.
