Her Image Forum to Empower African Diaspora Women

Ntumba Ntumba Apparel (NNA), a New York fashion based non-profit organization that promotes gender empowerment is hosting its annual “Her Image: Changing the Image of African Diaspora Women” Forum on Saturday, April 30,, 2016 at Fordham University in Bronx, New York.
Panelists will include Aduka Utah, spiritual coach. Naomi Yane, traffic reporter-NY1; Rick Davey, founder of Brooklyn Fashion Week; Akintunde Akinsanya, founder of New York African Restaurant Week and Iya Oge Beauty Pageant New York; Robert Bernstein, journalist & educator and Taylor Johnson, youth panelist. The discussion will be moderated by Cindy Similien- Johnson.

“We acknowledge the external system change that needs to happen. An internal system change can cause a revolution. It will give us the power to be the change we want to see,” said Ntumba Mukendi, founder and executive director of Ntumba Ntumba Apparel.
With a focus on offsetting misconceptions and negative stereotypes of African Diaspora Women all too often presented by corporate, mainstream media the forum aims to reinforce alternative empowering representation and offer business networking opportunity for women and girls entrepreneurs.
Since its inception, NNA continues to advocate for African Diaspora Women to play a more robust role in all aspects of decision making towards the betterment of educational, cultural, socio-political and economic development of the community

“As a black professional woman I feel like I have an obligation to be a role model and inspire especially young girls of color coming up behind me and Her Image Forum is just one way to do that. Over its five year of existence the Her Image Forum has fulfilled its obligation in showcasing images of those in the Diaspora,” said forum panelist Yane who is of Congolese heritage.
Her Image pre-event on Tuesday March 15 at 6:30 pm at 2031 Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard in Harlem New York will precede the Forum. Proceeds from Her Image pre-event will be donated to Fordham University Institute for Women and Girls.
