Liberia: Americans arrive to train Liberian Teachers

The National Teachers’ Training Conference brought together over 200 Liberian teachers from Montserrado, Margibi and Grand Bassa Counties.
As part of the Conference, a 12-Member Delegation from the United States of America has arrived in the Country on a 10-day visit to provide training and to also continue the issue of Church Planting with SOGOM Harvest.
The 12 Americans comprising Males and Females are from the Harvest Bible Chapel in the United States.
The Head of the Harvest Bible Chapel’s Delegation, Todd Hostetter who is always in Liberia said their visit is part of God’s purpose and their relationship with SOGOM Harvest.
This is his 9th visit to Liberia, since February 2008. Todd says he sees Liberia is his second home and would always love to visit.
“We are here to also copy some ideas from Liberian teachers on how they carry out their duties with the resources provided them”, Evangelist Hostetter stressed.
According to him, while in the country they will be providing vocational Bible lessens to Liberian kids, and teachers’ training for Liberian teachers with a key focus is to provide educational principles blended with Christian disciplines.
He said despite the numerals challenges Liberian teachers are faced with, they continue to impact knowledge in the Country’s future leaders which Americans can also learn from with resources advantage they have.
Evangelist Hostetter also said as part of their partnership with SOGOM Harvest in Liberia, they would love to see the planting of more churches across the country under Harvest Bible Chapel-USA.
According to him, one of the goals is to establish a school along the planting of every church for the education and spiritual growth of Liberians.
He praised Liberians for being a loving people and urged them to always humble themselves before the Lord to experience His blessings.
Also speaking, a team member of the Harvest Bible Chapel, Kevin Korhorn said he was happy to be in Liberia for the second time.
“I am here to encourage the pastors of SOGOM Harvest, and also specifically work with the leadership to do strategic planning to utilize the resources in the interest of the Church Planting Ministry here in Liberia”, Kelvin pointed out.
This Plan, according to him will layout the way forward for the next 3, or 5-10 years, for the glory of God and the benefit of Liberia and SOGOM Harvest.
Mr. Korhorn stressed that with Liberia’s developmental drive rapidly booming, the Church has a very significant role to play and as such some ideas must be shared with local leaders to enable them positively play their roles.
For his part, the General Overseer of SOGOM Harvest, Rev. Moses W. Wheigar described the visit of the American delegation as a mile stone for the Church and Liberian teachers, respectively.
He said the 3-day Teachers’ Training Conference is a refresher to enhance the professional ability of Liberian teachers.
According to Rev. Wheigar, the visit of the 12-Member American delegation from the Harvest Bible Chapel further demonstrates the level of cordiality of their relationship as a Church.
“We appreciate their regular visits to Liberia, because we are always encouraged and strengthened by their presence”, Rev. Wheigar asserts.
Rev. Wheigar described the coming of the delegation to Liberia to conduct the training for the teachers as in the right direction as some Liberian Class room teachers need the rightful training to double their performance.
The SOGOM Harvest General Overseer further noted that Liberia’s recovery from post conflict to national development can only be achieved if the educational system is on par with other nations.
He also said this can be further realized if young people are provided the right learning opportunities.
Participants of the 3-day Teachers’ Training Conference extolled SOGOM Harvest in Liberia and the Harvest Bible Chapel-USA for the workshop which they described as in the interest of contributing to Liberia’s Educational Sector.
Speaking Wednesday to reporters at the start of the Teachers’ Training at the edifice of SOGOM Harvest in Paynesville behind the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), some of the Participants expressed their gratitude for the training, describing it as timely.
They said, the training will help in addressing some of the numerals challenges teachers are faced with, ranging from Classroom Management, Lesson Planning and Presentation, among others.
SOGOM Harvest-Liberia in partnership with the Harvest Bible Chapel-USA always provides Educational Training for Liberian teachers once or twice every year, benefiting 2000-3000 teachers on an annual basis.
The 12-member American Delegation include Todd Hostetter-Team Leader, Kevin Korhorn, Matt Hogarth, Lori Korhorn, Ginger Weincek and Amanda Short. Others are Tori Holman, Hayley Mohr, Beth Zelenka, Ruth Verkaik, Michelle Helmkamp and Mitch Helmkamp.
