LIBERIA: CODES Commences Irish Aid Project
By: WASH R&E “Media” Network – A local Non-Governmental Organization, “Community Development Services (CODES)” has commenced its part of a 1.5 million euro Irish Aid Project on water, sanitation and Hygiene.

The Project which is carried out in Tawor and Gawala Districts in Grand Cape Mount County, is aimed at providing equitable and sustainable access to improved water and sanitation for citizens.
Providing an insight on the Project, the Executive Director of the Community Development Services (CODES) said it will involve the construction of latrines, hand pumps, rehabilitation of hand pumps, triggering of 10 communities in Community Led Total Sanitation, and hygiene promotion.
Mr. Tamba Bundor disclosed that CODES will carry on the construction of three latrines for schools and the construction and rehabilitation of eight wells in eight communities in Tewor and Gawala Districts.
CODES Executive Director also told the WASH Reporters & Editors Network of Liberia that Hygiene Promotion will take place within 15 communities in the two Districts.
Mr. Tamba described the selection of the two Districts by WaterAid and the Liberia WASH Consortium as timely due to the need they have for safe drinking of water, knowledge in sanitation and hygiene promotion.
He said most of the communities in the two areas lack the basic knowledge when it comes to sanitation and personal hygiene.
The CODES Executive Director further noted that the Project will enable them identify their weaknesses when it comes to sanitation and hygiene practices.
When quizzed about taking the disabled into consideration during the construction of these facilities, the CODES Boss added that all of their constructions are disabled friendly.
He said Community Development Services will ensure that a cash box system is put in place through which the facilities can be maintained.
